Alexa (Cat Smits), an idealist Dutch photographer, arrives in a conservative small town in rural Iowa—a place she mockingly refers to as "Bumblefuck, USA." Armed with a video camera and a hidden personal mission, Alexa is attempting to understand the tragic suicide of her close college friend, Matt, who had fled his small-town upbringing to escape bigotry.

Posing as a documentary filmmaker recording the lives of small-town residents, Alexa embeds herself in the community. Along the way, she meets Jennifer (Heidi M. Sallows), an artist trapped in a loveless marriage, and Lucas (John-Michael DiSpirito), a young man wrestling with his own closeted sexuality. As Alexa's intimate connections with the locals deepen—including a passionate affair with Jennifer—her presence becomes a catalyst for the townspeople to confront their secret desires, hypocrisy, and suppressed grief.
