🎬 "The Wedding Banquet" (1993) is a charming story about the lengths we will go to please our parents. Wai-Tung, a successful Manhattan broker, lives a happy life with his American partner, Simon. However, the problem is Wai-Tung's traditional Taiwanese parents, who dream of his wedding and grandchildren. To appease them, Wai-Tung decides on a "white marriage" with Wei-Wei, a young artist from China who desperately needs a green card. The situation spins out of control when the parents unexpectedly arrive in New York to organize a lavish, traditional wedding reception. The film brilliantly balances farce with profound family drama. Beneath the comedy lies a touching study of a traditional family's struggle to come out of the closet and the attempt to reconcile two worlds. It's a film about love that knows no language boundaries and about the fact that a real family is the one that accepts us as we are.
