In 1986, Tim, a socially awkward and introverted teenager living in a small, conservative Canadian town, decides to sign up for a high school cultural exchange program. Obsessed with French art cinema and sophistication, Tim envisions hosting an intellectual exchange student who will help him stand out. Instead, he is paired with Stéphane, a charismatic, cigarette-smoking, and hyper-sexually active French teenager. While Stéphane quickly becomes the most popular guy in school, his presence disrupts Tim's quiet life, pushing Tim out of his comfort zone and forcing him to navigate friendship, jealousy, and his own evolving personal and sexual identity.
