In 1890s Colorado, Cody Zamora (Madeleine Stowe) works as a brothel madame alongside fellow sex workers Anita (Mary Stuart Masterson), Eileen (Andie MacDowell), and Lily (Drew Barrymore). When Cody shoots and kills an abusive, wealthy client in self-defense to protect Anita, she is sentenced to hang by a corrupt local law enforcement.

Before the execution can take place, Anita, Eileen, and Lily break Cody out of jail, turning all four women into wanted outlaws. Fleeing toward Texas to start a new, legitimate life on a sawmilling plot, they are relentlessly pursued by ruthless Pinkerton detectives and Cody's sadistic former lover, outlaw Kid Jarrett (James Russo). Forced to take up arms, the four women must ride, shoot, and stick together to secure their freedom.
