👑 REVIEW: Compulsion (2018)

My Take:
Imagine two women locked in a luxury apartment in Italy. Sadie is an ambitious writer struggling with a creative block, and Francesca is her mysterious, incredibly sensual muse. What starts as a shared search for inspiration and a passionate affair quickly devolves into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Who is manipulating whom? The film is like a fever dream—full of saturated colors, beautiful interiors, and a mounting sense of dread.

What's Captivating: Visual opulence. Every frame looks like it was ripped out of a high-end fashion magazine. The deep reds of the fruit, the blue of the pool, and the play of light create a hypnotic atmosphere. The relationship between the leads is portrayed with intense sensuality, making the tension (both sexual and psychological) almost palpable.

A Word of Caution: The plot can be chaotic at times, prioritizing emotion and aesthetics over a logical resolution. This is a film for those who value mood and style over the traditional structure of a thriller.

Verdict: 6.8/10 🍷🇮🇹
Stylish, bloody, and incredibly sensual. A film to be watched with your eyes wide open—perfect for a "dark romance" night.

🔍 Did you know...?
Director Craig Goodwill intended the film as a tribute to the giallo genre and classic European erotic thrillers of the 1970s. It was filmed in authentic, historical locations in Italy, which helped achieve that specific, stifling atmosphere of luxury. Interestingly, the production design and costumes were crafted so that the colors evolve along with the characters' mental states—starting with bright, luminous tones and shifting toward deep blacks and blood reds for the finale.
