👑 HONEYGLUE (2015)

“Life is too short to be anything but everything.”

VIBE CHECK:
Indie Romance / Tearjerker / Punk-Rock Aesthetic / Gender-Fluid

THE PLOT:
Morgan (Adriana Mather) is a sheltered young woman whose world is shattered by a terminal cancer diagnosis. Just as she’s preparing to fade away, she meets Jordan (Zach Villa), a gender-fluid, dragonfly-obsessed drifter who sports gold eye makeup and a "don't give a damn" attitude. Jordan introduces Morgan to a world of subculture, spontaneity, and radical self-expression. Together, they decide to pack a lifetime of experiences into her remaining three months, proving that love doesn't need a long timeline to be revolutionary.

THE QUEER & RADICAL ANGLE:

The Gender-Fluid Lead: The film is radical for its portrayal of Jordan. He isn't defined by labels or a "coming out" arc; he simply is. His fluid expression of masculinity and femininity provides a refreshing, non-binary lens to a mainstream romantic structure.

Reclaiming the Body: As Morgan loses her hair and her strength, the film explores her reclamation of her body through Jordan’s eyes—finding beauty in the "breakdown" and refusing to let a diagnosis strip away her agency or her budding sexuality.

Anti-Conformity: It’s a radical middle finger to the "perfect" life. Morgan’s conservative family serves as the foil to the couple's messy, artistic, and deeply authentic bond.

WHY IT KILLS:
It is "raw, colorful, and unapologetically loud." The chemistry between Adriana Mather and Zach Villa is the film's beating heart—Villa, in particular, brings a magnetic, Bowie-esque energy to the screen. While it hits the emotional beats you’d expect from a terminal illness drama, it avoids the "saccharine" trap by maintaining a gritty, indie edge and a visual style that feels like a hand-drawn zine come to life.

EMOTION SCORE: 8.9 / 10 🦋✨
