Career Highlights & Breakthroughs
Berlin Breakthrough (Cocoon / Kokon, 2020): Krippendorff captured international festival acclaim when Cocoon premiered as the opening film of the Generation 14plus section at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival. The film earned widespread praise for its evocative portrayal of a queer teenage summer in Berlin’s multicultural Kreuzberg district.
Critically Acclaimed Feature Debut (Fucking Berlin, 2016): Based on the bestselling autobiographical novel by Sonia Rossi, Krippendorff’s debut feature tackled themes of sex work, university life, and self-possession with unflinching honesty and empathetic nuance.
Academic Foundations & Honors: A graduate of the prestigious Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, Krippendorff established her voice early with award-winning short films (Teens, Streunermädchen), earning nominations for the German Short Film Award and establishing a reputation for authentic youth storytelling.
Directorial Style & Vision
Sensory & Sun-Drenched Visuals: Krippendorff’s camera lingers on physical textures—sweat, shimmering light, urban heat, and blooming nature—creating an immersive, dreamlike atmosphere that mirrors the emotional intensity of adolescence.
Authentic Queer Awakening: Her narratives treat LGBTQ+ identity and young desire as natural, fluid, and celebratory experiences, bypassing sensationalism in favor of emotional intimacy and psychological truth.
Urban Atmosphere as a Character: Settings like Berlin’s Kottbusser Tor in Cocoon are not merely backdrops; Krippendorff uses local architecture, soundscapes, and neighborhood rhythms to shape her characters' internal growth.
