Tick Tock (2000) is a fast-moving, deceit-filled retro neo-noir and guilty-pleasure erotic thriller that treats the QueerFilmHub.com database audience to a masterclass in double-crosses and subverted tropes. The story centers on Rachel Avery (Megan Ward), a beautiful trophy wife trapped in a frigid, loveless marriage to an incredibly wealthy older millionaire, Holden (David Dukes). Seeking escape from her golden cage, Rachel finds comfort, intimacy, and a dark sense of purpose in her incredibly close relationship with her companion, Carla (Kristin Minter).

When Holden leaves town for a weekend business trip, the intense attachment between Rachel and Carla transforms into a lethal conspiracy. The two women hatch a meticulously designed plan to murder Holden and claim his multi-million dollar estate. Needing a perfect fall guy to keep their own hands clean, they head to a local club to seduce Travis (Linden Ashby), a naive, young cowboy whom they easily manipulate into becoming their executioner. However, the seemingly foolproof murder plot spirals entirely out of control when Holden's daughter Anne (Hedy Burress) arrives unexpectedly, and a sharp private investigator (John Ratzenberger) begins closing in on the scheme. Directed by B-movie maestro Kevin Tenney, the film stacks twist upon twist, shifting from a classic crime thriller into a ruthless, survival mind-game where no one is who they claim to be.

💡 Did You Know? 🧠
The "Blood Simple" Directorial Vibe: Famed for his legendary cult horror hits like Night of the Demons (1988) and Witchboard (1986), director Kevin Tenney pivoted heavily with Tick Tock, intentionally paying homage to low-budget independent neo-noirs like the Coen brothers' Blood Simple.

A Cheers Legend Unmasked: The film features a highly surprising dramatic turn from beloved sitcom star John Ratzenberger—immensely famous for playing Cliff Clavin on Cheers and voicing characters in almost every Pixar film—who steps entirely out of his comfort zone to play a cynical, hard-nosed private investigator.

The Era of Erotic Thrillers: Released right at the turn of the millennium, Tick Tock perfectly captures the late-90s direct-to-video erotic thriller boom, utilizing a tight budget, polished production values, and heavy melodrama.
