Fuori serves as a headlining centerpiece in the European arthouse selection of QueerFilmHub.com. Set against the heavy, sweltering Roman summer of 1980, the film chronicles a fascinatingly disruptive chapter in the life of the celebrated, controversial Italian writer and feminist icon Goliarda Sapienza (portrayed with magnificent depth by Valeria Golino). Unable to secure a publisher for her literary masterpiece The Art of Joy, Goliarda commits a bizarre, unexpected act of defiance: she steals jewelry from a wealthy close friend as a direct "provocation" to society, resulting in a brief stint at the Rebibbia prison.
Though her time behind bars is short, the experience shifts her entire worldview upside down. Inside, she encounters a world devoid of class barriers and constructs an intense, deeply intimate psychological bond with several younger inmates.
Upon their release, Goliarda and two specific former inmates—the rebellious political activist Roberta (Matilda De Angelis) and the sharp, edgy Barbara (celebrated pop artist Elodie in a breakout role)—continue to meet throughout the empty, car-free streets of August Rome. Moving fluidly between friendship and unspoken, hedonistic queer longing, the two younger women's fierce struggles for independent identity serve to liberate the aging writer from her dark bouts of existential depression. Through their collective defiance of heteronormative and socio-political constraints, Goliarda completely rediscovers her own unyielding drive to write, giving birth to her famous autobiographical works.

Swept the Awards Circuit: The film dominated Italy's major awards following its festival run. At the 2025 Nastri d'Argento, Valeria Golino won Best Actress, while Matilda De Angelis and Elodie shared the Best Supporting Actress trophy in a rare tie. De Angelis also secured the prestigious David di Donatello Award for her role.
Based on True Masterpieces: The screenplay is a clever, multi-layered adaptation loosely drawn from Goliarda Sapienza’s celebrated real-life autobiographical novels, L'università di Rebibbia (1983) and Le certezze del dubbio, capturing her visionary ideas on personal and collective freedom.
Elodie's Screen Ascent: Already a massive multi-platinum pop star in Italy, Elodie's critically praised, "pitch-perfect" performance in Fuori firmly solidified her as one of the most exciting new dramatic acting talents in contemporary European cinema.
