🎬 "Farewell, My Queen" (2012) plunges us into the sweltering, anxious halls of Versailles in July 1789. While the revolution rumbles in Paris, the story is told through the eyes of Sidonie Laborde (Léa Seydoux), the young and fanatically devoted "reader" to Marie Antoinette (Diane Kruger). Sidonie’s world begins and ends with the Queen; her devotion is a quiet, burning obsession that borders on the erotic.

As the Bastille falls and the nobility flees, the film captures the frantic decay of the monarchy. The emotional core of the film is the complex triangle between Sidonie, the increasingly erratic Queen, and the Queen’s favorite, the Duchess de Polignac (Virginie Ledoyen). Sidonie's loyalty is put to the ultimate, heartbreaking test when Marie Antoinette asks her to perform a dangerous act of sacrifice to save the Duchess. It is a story of unrequited love and the brutal realization that for the powerful, the devoted are often merely beautiful, disposable tools. 🎬
