๐Ÿ‘‘ YOU, ME & HER (2023)

โ€œThe ultimate loophole or the beginning of the end?โ€ VIBE CHECK:Marital Dramedy / Vacation Fantasy / Awkward Humor / Latin Vibes THE PLOT:Mags (Selina Ringel) and Ash (Ritesh Rajan) are a long-married couple drowning in the monotony of parenting and career stress. To save their relationship, they escape to San Pancho, Mexico, where they meet Angela (Sydney Park), a free-spirited yoga instructor and "digital nomad." An instant chemistry between Mags and Angela leads the couple to flirt with the idea of a threesome. However, as Mags begins to rediscover a fun, repressed side of herself, Ash finds himself grappling with unexpected insecurities and the realization that his "cheat code" for a happy marriage might actually be speeding up its demise. THE QUEER & RADICAL ANGLE: Bisexual Awakening: The film centers on Magsโ€™ late-in-life discovery of her attraction to women, which she had long squelched. It captures that "second adolescence" feeling when a new connection unearths lost parts of one's identity. Challenging the "Dude Fantasy": While Ash initially views the flirtation as a "super sexy" prospect for his own benefit, the film subverts this by showing Mags becoming more interested in Angela without him, forcing a radical look at what happens when a partner's autonomy exceeds the other's comfort. Intersectionality: With an Indian-American husband and a Mexican-American wife, the film navigates cultural expectations and identities alongside its exploration of modern non-monogamy. WHY IT KILLS:Itโ€™s a "love letter to Mexico," filled with vibrant colors and hypnotic beach shots that mirror Mags' internal awakening. Written and directed by real-life husband-and-wife team Selina Ringel and Dan Levy Dagerman, the film offers a painfully relatable and honest look at the "domestic drama doldrums." While itโ€™s billed as a comedy, its strength lies in the "squirm-inducing" honesty of its characters and the uncomfortable questions it asks about sustaining curiosity in a long-term relationship.
