My Take:
If the previous Carmilla was a dark, gothic dream, then The Carmilla Movie (2017) is the joyful queer celebration fans spent years waiting for. On QueerFlix, this belongs in the "Fandom Classics" and "Queer Joy" categories. It’s that rare vampire story that trades angst for actual relationship goals.
What's Captivating: The "Hollstein" chemistry. Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman have a connection that you just can't fake—it's what built the whole phenomenon. With a bigger budget than the web series, the film shines in its production design (the masquerade ball is a total vibe). It’s a love letter to the fans, giving them exactly what mainstream cinema often denies us: a happy, messy, and proud ending.
A Word of Caution: Barrier to entry. If you haven't seen the web series, the side characters and lore might be a bit confusing. It’s a movie made by fans for fans. But then again, the web series is an easy binge—perfect for a rainy afternoon!
Verdict: 8.0/10 (For fans: 10/10) 🦇☕💍
Warm, witty, and incredibly satisfying. A landmark finale for one of the most important queer stories of the digital age.
