๐Ÿ‘‘ REVIEW: Knife+Heart (2018)

My Take:
Imagine 1970s Paris, neon lights, smoky clubs, and a gay porn film set where a serial killer starts hunting the cast. Vanessa Paradis stars as Anne, an ambitious producer who decides to turn the bloody events into her most ambitious film yet. Itโ€™s a hypnotic blend of slasher, drama, and camp aesthetic.

What's Captivating: The style! This movie looks like a dusty 70s classic found in an attic. The colors are saturated, the synth score (by M83) is electrifying, and the atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a knife. Itโ€™s a rare horror film that manages to be both brutal and incredibly romantic in its melancholy.

A Word of Caution: The film is visually and contextually very bold. If you aren't a fan of "retro-porn" aesthetics (even presented artistically) or the specific pacing of French cinema, this might be a challenge.

Verdict: 8.5/10 ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŽญ
A visual masterpiece and a tribute to B-movie cinema. Bloody, beautiful, and completely unique.

๐Ÿ” Did you know...?
The film's score was composed by M83, and the band's leader, Anthony Gonzalez, is the brother of the film's director, Yann Gonzalez. This family collaboration ensured that the sound and visuals are perfectly synchronized. Furthermore, the film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannesโ€”a massive achievement for a horror movie with such niche and daring subject matter. Vanessa Paradis herself stated that playing Anne was one of the most intense experiences of her career.
