👑 REVIEW: Concussion (2013)

My Take:
Meet Abby—a woman who has it all: a beautiful suburban home, a successful career, a wife, and kids. But after a freak accident where she’s hit in the head by a ball (the titular concussion), something snaps in her perfectly ordered life. Abby begins to feel a void that luxury shopping can't fill. She decides to... start working as a high-end escort for women. However, this isn't a film about sex; it’s about the need for authentic intimacy and breaking free from the suffocating routine of the middle class.

What's Captivating: Robin Weigert. Her performance as Abby is phenomenal—nuanced, restrained, yet boiling with suppressed emotion. The film is shot in a very elegant, almost sterile way, which brilliantly contrasts with the chaos Abby introduces into her life. It’s smart, adult cinema without easy answers.

A Word of Caution: The pacing is slow, and the narrative focuses more on the protagonist's inner world than on loud plot twists. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, this isn't it—it’s a deep psychological study.

Verdict: 8.0/10 🏠✨
Sophisticated cinema about female desire and finding oneself in places where no one would dare to look. Absolutely worth watching.

🔍 Did you know...?
The film was Stacie Passon's directorial debut and became a sensation at the Sundance and Berlinale film festivals, where it won the prestigious Teddy Jury Award. The director admitted she was inspired by a desire to tell a story about the "invisible" desires of middle-aged women, who are often reduced solely to their roles as mothers and wives. Interestingly, despite its bold themes, the film avoids vulgarity, focusing instead on aesthetics and psychological depth, earning widespread critical acclaim.
