THE PLOT:
Olivia and her wife, Nia, are a high-profile queer couple whose relationship is beginning to fracture under the pressure of public life. In a desperate attempt to save their marriage, they travel to a secluded, ultra-exclusive retreat led by the charismatic and enigmatic "healer" Georgia (played with icy brilliance by Kelly McGillis). However, the "wellness" program quickly shifts from meditation and yoga to a sinister form of psychological manipulation designed to "align" their desires with traditional norms. Olivia must fight to keep her grip on reality and rescue Nia before the retreatโs "healing" becomes permanent.
THE QUEER & RADICAL ANGLE:
The New Face of Conversion: The film is radical in how it updates the conversion therapy trope. It isnโt a church basement; itโs a million-dollar wellness center. It explores how modern language like "self-optimization" and "healing" can be weaponized against queer identities.
The Power Couple Dynamic: By focusing on a successful, established couple, the film highlights that even the most "secure" queer lives can be targeted by those who view their love as a defect to be "cured."
WHY IT KILLS:
It is a masterclass in building dread. The contrast between the beautiful, serene landscape and the escalating mental torture creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. Kelly McGillis (returning to the screen with gravitas) is terrifyingly calm as the antagonist. It moves at a breakneck pace, shifting from a relationship drama into a full-blown survival thriller that will leave you questioning the true cost of "fixing" what isn't broken.
