“Falling in love is a killer.”
VIBE CHECK:
Supernatural YA / Urban Fantasy / Enemies-to-Lovers / High-Camp Drama
THE PLOT:
Juliette is a "Legacy" vampire who is coming of age and needs to make her first kill to take her place in her powerful family. Calliope is a monster hunter from a prestigious guild of slayers, also looking to make her first kill to prove her worth. When they both choose each other as their target, things get complicated—mostly because they end up falling for each other instead. It’s a fast-paced battle between bloodlust and teenage hormones, set against the backdrop of a town hiding dark secrets.
THE QUEER & RADICAL ANGLE:
Center Stage Romance: The central queer relationship isn't a subplot; it is the plot. The show leans into the "star-crossed lovers" drama with zero hesitation, giving queer audiences the kind of high-stakes, supernatural melodrama usually reserved for straight couples.
Family Dynamics: The show explores how family legacy and expectations can suffocate individual identity, making the romance between a slayer and a vampire a radical act of rebellion.
WHY IT KILLS:
It’s unapologetic fun. It feels like a throwback to the Buffy or Vampire Diaries era but with a modern, diverse, and queer-forward lens. The chemistry between Sarah Catherine Hook and Imani Lewis is the heart of the show, making you root for them even when the world (and their parents) are literally trying to kill them. It’s a "guilty pleasure" that wears its fangs with pride.
